April 9, 2009- Vlade and Snezana Divac visited the New Gracanica Monastery. During the reception, they discussed the work of the Humanitarian Organization Divac. The HOD was founded to provide support for the refugees in Serbia. Conflicts on the territory of former Yugoslavia officially ended, some ten years ago, some fourteen years ago, but the number of refugees and displaced persons living in Serbia is still the highest in Europe. The "You can too" action of the HOD seeks to provide care for approximately 7000 refugees living in refugee "camps" around Serbia in dismal conditions. This population is, of course, only a fraction of the total refugee population in Serbia, but seeing that their living conditions are as miserable as they are, the HOD arranged a plan to provide housing for those refugees. The HOD has developed a plan where a whole family can be provided with a house and some land somewhere in rural Serbia for the price of $15000. Since almost all of the people living in the refugee "camps" lived the agrarian lifestyle before they were displaced in the war, this is the perfect solution for them. We support the work of the HOD and strongly encourage our parishes and national organizations in North America to enage themselves in the wonderful Christian work of the HOD.
