July 26, 2009 - On the Sunday of the Father of the Sixth Ecumenical Council, the day of Holy Archangel Gabriel, Bishop Longin of New Gracanica - Midwestern America, served the Divine Liturgy for the first time as the local bishop at the church of Saint George in Schererville, IN, accompanied by a large number of Serbian and visiting Russian clergy. Metropolitan Christopher of Chicago-Libertyville headed the service and gave an instructional sermon on the topic of the Gospel reading.
After the Liturgy, a memorial service was held for General Dragoljub and to all those who have given their lives for the Honorable Cross and golden freedom. In his address, Bishop Longin expressed joy over the unity of our Church, over common liturgizing and common Eucharist by which the fulness of the Faith was epxerienced and confirmed. At the festive lunch and program, many speakers were heard  who pointed out the importance of the struggle against godless Communism, the spirit of freedom and resistance to all oppression...
Father Dobrivoje, the parish priest in Schererville, along with the parish board and the entire parish, as well as the board and the sisters of the Cetnik house were  good and kind hosts of this gathering.

On the same day, His Grace Bishop Longin married a graduate theologian Nikolaj Kostur to Ekaterina Volkova, daughter of Deacon Paul Volkov from New York. Three Russian bishops were also present at the wedding as well as several priests and deacons. The wedding reception was held at the hall of the St. Elijah parish where Fr Lazar Kostur, groom's father, had faithfully served his Church and people for decades. Many years to the newly weds!
