- On Wednesday evening, we had the honor of hosting the Wonder-working
Kursk-root icon of the Mother of God. The icon is originally from the
town of Kursk and the word "root" in its name indicates that it was
miraculously discovered by the root of a tree. This icon is over seven
centuries old and in the 18th century, Saint Serafim of Sarov was as a
child miraculously healed in front of it. The icon was brought to the monastery by His Grace Bishop Peter of the Russian Church Abroad. Bishop Peter and Bishop Longin, with a few priests and followed by a large number of people, served an Akathist service to the Mother of God. Spiritual impact of the icon was felt during the service and still is. We thank our brethren from the Russian Church for sharing this blessing with us. |
